DINO CALVITTI'S MOVIE MANIFESTO PAGE!!

SUMMARY

The above diagram illustrates a list of most of my essential equipment, in case you're all wondering how seriously I'm tackling this. The Nikon 750's are not true cine cameras, and they may be a bit dated, but they are full format(35mm film equivalent) and take high quality video. I also have a bunch of lenses of various depths/ANGLES, such as 1:2 55mm, 1:1.8 50mm, various zooms and what not. I anyhow have fast lenses perfectly suited to shoot in low light situations. I also have follow focus gears to add some flavor to close-ups, etc. So I did some homework. One of my Nikons has a faulty HDMI out, so can't use monitor with it, but I don't have Atomos monitor recorders so it doesn't matter, until I actually buy them, of course. I have a Rode mike and I believe three wireless mics. I also have a high quality (and very expensive) Sony PCM-m10 audio recorder. Bunch of lighting equipment and other practical effects gear to boot. As of this writing I have a decent amount of performers interested in partaking in my projects, whatever they may be(more on that later). I can describe my philosophy and background in so many ways:

1) I am a hands-on kind of individual, making my income through labor-oriented jobs/projects. I have experience on just about any facet of work inside a house, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and drywall. I once flipped a house in Penn Hills, where I performed 90% of the actual labor. But I didn't make too much $ on the sale as it was well before the explosion in real estate prices of the last ten years. I'll include links to the project, as well as all other projects mentioned here, at the end of the page. I work hard to realize my vision, when the opportunity presents itself.

2) I have a background in art history, as I have exhaustively researched art through a variety of media, including ArtForum, Art In America, etc. My inclination is to be artful, which is meaningful in video/film production, needless to say. I don't need to mention my being a fan of cinema, which has led me to tackle this project(s). I'll include a link to my YT channel which includes rarely watched conceptual videos(if you watch all the videos from start to finish you may have too much time on your hands). Also, I don't care if anyone watches them, not looking for attention, just trying to produce interesting, unique works of decent quality.

3) My academic career sucks-I am a dropout from a couple of good architecture schools, namely Pratt and Cooper Union in NYC. Environment-building in film is right up my alley. Why I dropped out doesn't matter, just know that I did. No secrets among us.

4) I am relatively literate. I read a decent amount, though not enough. I am a regular reader of the NYTimes and am liberal in nature. My writing tends to be verbose and potentially expository in nature, but editing oneself is a thing that is always needed, in the script and in personal interactions.

5) I have a singular experience behind the scenes in filmmaking. I worked with an independent filmmaker in the area after responding to his ad on CL. This was several years ago. I will not name him as I like the guy and am grateful he took me on board, but he was inexperienced, and the resulting "movie" I helped create was not good. My involvement with the moviemaking process was very limited. I didn't care to do so, it was his movie, not mine. My take-*some* level of sophistication- regarding the medium, and art in general, and understanding basic human relationships regardless of the level-are sort of mandatory when creating a credible movie. Though truth be told, he managed to make his movie, unlike me, and he succeeded in putting together a team of actors and crew to realize it.

6) My lessons-the process behind filmmaking is difficult and time-consuming. It requires multiple takes and multiple angles, employing different angled lenses as the situation requires. There is continuity to be considered, audio recording levels that need to be exacted and moderated, the ISO needs to be right, etc. My impression-since I am limited in experience- the actor should just perform and given free reign and I'll deal exclusively with the logistics behind the scenes. If you want to get involved, bring something to the table and I will not ask you to reshoot your scene 100 times. This is something that the director alluded to above did over and over while overlooking the essentials in what produces dramatic content.

7) I am poor and cannot pay you. I'll do my best to help pay for gas and maybe bring lunch when I can. Otherwise you're helping me as much as helping yourself.

8) A contract can be involved if requested. I'm thinking of something like 33-66, as in I get 1/3 of potential profits and the rest of the performers receive the rest, split according to screen time. This initial project does not possess this potential, but this rationale is on record.

9) I am a novice and you should know this. But am highly motivated and ambitious. I am familiar with a broad range of mediums, not just video, but painting, drawing, programming, sketchup, javascript…a bunch of different mediums can be employed in the filmmaking process if used creatively. But…

11) I'm planning on creating a short with one of the responses to my submit requests, Kess, and will produce it(hopefully) before the 48hour FF, if any of you are still interested in partaking, otherwise we'll plan on making a short over the summer.

13) I am always looking for an edge in everything, and am on the constant lookout for the alternative to everything, and can be critical, though not of your acting skills. Anyone who knows how to project onscreen is a blank canvas for me, so do that and you'll give me ample material to work with.

14) PEACE
